A special genre of rugs developed in the 1990s by the Khan Mohammedi family of weavers in Afghanistan. They used old Turcoman and traditional Afghan tribal designs from the Ersari and other tribes. They are distinguished by consistently good quality wool and dyes and are usually medium to fine weave, wool pile with wool warp and weft.
This is an exceptional example of the weaver’s art. Here are well balanced and cleverly combined colours forming a pattern that is carefully laid out with good spacing and a pleasing rhythm. There is something Christmassy about it!
