Screen printed Indian cotton, double layer stitched together with decorative thread.
Kantha (kanta), a hindi word, is the old technique of decorative over stitching with a coloured thread, fixing two layers of textile, and is practised widely in India. It’s a superb way to recycle textiles, such as cotton, silk, linen and wool and keeps many people, mainly women, in employment. Our two layer Kantha throws and cushions are hand picked in Jaipur from 2 or 3 trusted suppliers. They are either screen printed or block printed (minor ‘defects’ in this technique often result in a more appealing look).
