Andrew Haughton – Owner and Manager
Andrew designed and made furniture in his early 20s until 1993. He then moved on to The Mihrab Gallery in Edinburgh, which led on to supplying large antique oriental carpets to a Madison Avenue gallery. Andrew has now been in the rug trade for over 20 years, building up a swathe of knowledge. He has been involved in The Nomads Tent since 2008, continuing to develop the space as a shop/gallery/venue and warehouse of tribal art.
Alastair Richardson Buyer – India (Furniture and Artefacts)
Al has travelled extensively throughout India and Central Asia. He is a veteran of the Silk Road and Hippy Trail of yesteryear. Al’s knowledge of subcontinental folklore, legends, music and stories is vast – he always seems to know a little something about each artefact.
Izidor Kresnik Rug Buyer – Iran; Rug Repair and Cleaning
Izidor’s knowledge of rugs is second to none. He has a fine eye for detail, workmanship and a photographic memory of The Nomad’s Tent inventory. Izidor has a particular passion for tribal pieces, and during his travels has learned about the techniques and customs involved in their production.
Sarah Brady Administration & Marketing Manager; Events Co-ordinator
Sarah’s good taste and perfectionism are apparent in the marketing strategy she has employed for Nomads Tent. Her degree in History of Art and love of travel led her down St Leonard’s Lane to The Nomads Tent warehouse – many an item ended up finding a home in hers!
Ruth Palmer Administrator & Web Guru
Ruth’s nomadic credentials include a background in IT and administration, a degree in Zoology and a love of travel, art and the exotic.
Marianna Tomarelli Jewellery & Visual Merchandiser
Marianna has travelled to over 40 countries, having become slightly obsessed with different cultures in her teens. Along the way she has spoken to hundreds of people about their lifestyle, culture and language, collecting small pieces of artwork and jewellery along the way.
