Textiles of Africa
An illustrated talk by John Gillow

John Gillow; author, lecturer, traveller and collector has spent nearly 50 years collecting the folk textiles of Africa and Asia. Every year he collects and researches for several months of the year in many parts of the globe. He lectures to university and museum audiences in Europe, Asia, the Americas and Australasia. This year he will be exhibiting part of his extensive collection at The Nomads Tent in Edinburgh with strip weaves and indigo dyed cloths from West Africa, raphia weavings and embroidery from the Congo, stitched resisted “Ndop” from Cameroon and much more. His books include Arts and Crafts of India, Printed and Painted Textiles of Africa, Traditional Indonesian Textiles, World Textiles, and African Textiles.
